Xiaomi launches MiBand 2 with price hike

After lots of speculations, Xiaomi has finally launched the second generation Mi Band. Although this is the third fitness tracker, company has named it as MiBand 2. The first fitness tracker by Xiaomi is known as Mi Band and the second one is known as Mi Band Pulse. Mi Band 2 features a tiny display and costs $23 (RMB 149). This time company has hiked price. The first generation MiBand was launched for $15.

According to reports, Xiaomi is second biggest seller of fitness tracker after Fitbit. Xiaomi has already sold more than 20 million fitness trackers. Xiaomi is trying to capture fitness trackers’ market by its attractive pricing strategy.

The second generation Mi Band has a tiny 0.42-inch OLED black and white display (not touchscreen) which reflects your heart rate, steps count, measures your sleep as well as features calorie counter.

MiBand 2 also sports ADI accelerometer and optical heart rate monitor.

The Mi Band 2 is dust and waterproof up-to IP67 specifications.

Luckily, Xiaomi Mi Band 2 also borrows a feature of Apple Watch. It will vibrate if you are sitting constant at a single place for a long time. The Xiaomi Band 2 comes with battery-life of 20 days.

The MiBand 2 uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect with your smartphone. If you have Xiaomi phone, you need to enter passcode again and again unless your Xiaomi Band is in range. If someone steals your phone and band’s bluetooth gets disconnected then, the passcode get reactivated.

Xiaomi’s MiBand 2 will go up for sale on June 7 in China. International availability and prices has not been announced.
